Meet Andrea, a Tour Consultant working primarily with Canadian schools but also with many wonderful teachers in the United States. With a passion for travel and a knack for planning Andrea enjoys working with teachers to create the perfect travel experience!

Tell us about yourself!

I grew up in the interior of British Columbia and moved to Montreal in January of 2015. I studied many things in University, including Event Management, Tourism, Arts and Social Work. The travel industry has turned out to be the perfect place for me!

What made you apply to Prometour?

I grew up in a family where travel and embracing other cultures was highly encouraged and a part of every day life. My parents were a great influence on my interest in travel, and especially in working to encourage young people to travel and experience other cultures.

I wanted to work for a company that shares the same values as me, and that does something I believe in. A happy work environment and good corporate culture are also very important to me, and Prometour turned out to be a perfect match!

What are the top destinations you’ve visited and which was your favourite?

Some my favourite destinations were Panama, Greece, and Italy. It’s hard to pick a favourite, but I would say that Barcelona is definitely at the top of the list of favourite cities I’ve been to. I was fascinated by all of the art and interesting architecture everywhere I looked, and the city itself is so alive and vibrant! I also thought the food was amazing.

Which Prometour Tour would you travel on?

I would love to do any of our Peru tours, especially the “Traditional Peru and Community Project” one. I think it’s a great itinerary if you want to really get a feel for the culture and interact with the locals. It also leaves lots of opportunity to enjoy the other wonders that Peru is known for, including the Uros floating islands, Lake Titicaca, Ollantaytambo and of course, Machu Picchu!

What’s one thing you wish you could tell educators that want to plan a student trip?

I would tell them to go for it! It’s such a great way to expose students to new experiences and cultures. For language teachers, travel can be the perfect way to get students excited about the language they are learning and have the chance to practice with locals. I believe that students who have the chance to travel when they are at the high school level will travel more as adults and benefit tremendously from their experiences.

When did you first catch the travel bug/what was your first trip?

My first overseas trip was to England when I was 12. My mom was traveling on business, so she brought my cousin and me along for the ride. I remember being quite baffled by the subway system as I tried to figure out how to buy our tickets while my mom and cousin stood there laughing at me. To this day, figuring things out is one of my favourite parts of travel!

What’s your favorite place in Montréal?

I think my favourite place in the city is my neighbourhood, Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie! It’s so nice to return there after the work day and enjoy a nice walk through the tree-lined streets and past all of the lovely little restaurants and coffee shops. It’s also very close to Little Italy, which is another very nice area to walk around. On weekends, I can stroll to Marché Jean-Talon for fresh produce and locally made products!
